Travel Tips From Malaysia’s National Diver Chew Yiwei – A Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine Exclusive

Chew Yiwei is a national diver for Malaysia as well as a student athlete perusing a diploma in computer science. He achieved his first national tittle at the tender age of 15, SEA Games medal at 18 and first Asian Games medal at 19 years old. A total of 14 years in the sporting world and still going strong, working towards the Tokyo Olympics. Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine gets an exclusive to Yiwei’s travel tips.

1. What is your dream destination and why?

My dream destination will be Paris, France. I have been to more than 20 countries throughout my career, but yet to experience the smell of croissant and romantic city.

2. Three things that you could never travel without?

A luggage with 4 wheels, moisturizer and a book.

3. Which destination surpassed your expectations and surprised you the most?

Auckland, New Zealand. It is common knowledge that New Zealand has a small population of people, experiencing their culture blew my mind along with the chill atmosphere and clean air. We had someone we just met during a event to bring us around, showing us the best of the country.

4. Where and what was your most memorable meal you have ever had while travelling?

A cold spaghetti in Madrid, Spain. I never had a cold dish as a main course during dinner, it was really interesting

5. Where are you looking to travel to next?

Tokyo, Japan. This is my qualification trip to the Olympics, but because of the current global situation everything was halted to keep everyone safe.

6. What projects are you currently working on?

The Olympics!

7. Do you have any tips or advice for budding athletes?

Be hopeful, success is not a sprint but a marathon, expect to lose sometimes but that does not mean you can not achieve bigger things.
