Melbourne Brunch Festival

Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine members took a tour of Melbourne Brunch Festival, on behalf of Global Victoria, The State Government of Victoria, Australia’s trade facilitation agency and would like to highlight two recommended venues in this season of feasting the Australian way.

Our first stop was at Tolido’s Espresso Nook where we our palates were enliven with the “dreamy-sweet” Strawberry Fields French Toast ($19++) Brioche, Montefiore Mascarpone Cheese, Victorian Strawberries, Home-made Crumble. Yes you heard it right, starting with non savoury by mixing up the usual style of brunch.

Show-stopper Brunch BAE ($19++) Farmer’s Bread, Vegemite, Mozzarella Cheese, Lovacado Avocados, Eggs, Bacon *Vegemite is a popular breakfast spread in Australia, made from brewers’ yeast extract (something Aussies just can’t do without yea). And to wash it all down, try Cafe Con Miel ($7.50++) Espresso, Milk, Victorian Honey, Cinnamon. On their regular menu are standout dishes like Prawn Laksa Pasta ($20++), Rösti w Smoked Bratwurst ($22++) and Sea Salt Caramel Latte ($6.50++).

Second or what we like to call our “pit-stop” is Terra Madre with it’s Beetroot & Avocado Toast with Macadamia Dukkah ($27++) Victorian Beets, Victorian Macadamias, Cream Cheese, Dill, Lemon, Australian Avocados, excellent Corn and Potato Rösti with Charred Baby Carrots (V, GFF) ($24++) Sweet Corn, Victorian Red Potatoes, Carrot Top Pesto, Almonds, Balsamic Reduction, Tomato Salsa and the delectable Lamb Kofta with Feta Labneh and Poached Eggs ($31++) MC Herd Wimmera River Grass-fed Lamb, Sumac Onions, Davidson’s Plums, Chilli Oil, Parsley

*Australian lamb used above is carbon neutral. This means that eating lamb does not contribute to further climate change and the emissions from the Australian sheep meat sector do not contribute to further global temperature rises. Pairing well with the food is Four Pillars Gin and Peach, Ginger Spritz ($22++)
