Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong, an IHG Hotel

In top contention for being the best hotel in Eastern Singapore in Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine’s 7th Annual Travel Awards, Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong is probably the best IHG hotel in this island city. Built in the same area as the former Joo Chiat Police Station (which is now a building under conservation), this nostalgic property oozes contemporary Straits Born Chinese culture design also known as the Peranakans, whose rich heritage fills the surroundings. This hotel is also walking distance to East Coast Beach and just a short ride to the city centre.

Rooms

The accommodations are super modern with classic touches all over. The artwork on the walls tells stories of old from a golden era of the Katong and East Coast districts. Lovely Peranakan motives decorate parts of the ceiling lightings and even bed frame. The Straits Born Chinese patterns continues in the bathroom and washroom floors and walls where shades of “Tiffany” blue, white and brown delights your sight. What’s more is the floor to celling windows that allows natural light into the room during the day and let you have a peak at the bustle during the night.

Complimentary high speed wifi is great for those on business and LED TV for those leisure travellers who just want to rest and relax in air-conditioned comfort and spend precious moments together. Local sweets are also offered free for a taste of the yesteryears and if you like, many products in the room can also be bought from the souvenir corner at the lobby.

Dining

Baba Chews, is the hotel’s main restaurant that serves up delicious food all day and night. The menu is extensive and consist of selected Singaporean local favourites, Western staples and of course modern interpretations of the Straits Born Chinese cuisine. For breakfast the Egg Royal is a must try, perfectly poached farm egg served on toasted English Muffin, a layer of smoked salmon, drizzled generously with hollandaise sauce and topped with fish roe.

Come lunch, sink your teeth into Augus Beef Cubes cooked with black pepper, and bell peppers with a sprinkle of garlic chips for texture and added flavours. Highly recommended is the Kueh Pie Tee with smoked creme caviar and actual caviar to finish. A take on the traditional in the most premium way possible in our opinion where each bite is a decadent one.

For fitness addicts, enjoy your work out with beautiful views of the pool with fitness machines and free weights. The highlight for many is certainly the pool, stunning both day and night especially at sunset. Lounge at one of the many sunbeds with a book or swim laps, just let go and enjoy yourselves. Food and beverage can also be ordered from the hotel and consumed around this memorable setting.
