Rooms
Each of the 150 ryokan in the property continue the east-meets-west design each featuring elegant Japanese aesthetics with modern minimalist style. Guests are given the option of either mountain or forest valley views, with each featuring open-air onsen baths as well as complimentary Wi-Fi access. The rooms vary in size with the spacious Executive Suite Room allowing up to 4 guests’ enjoyment. Most of them comes with western style beds with some featuring a mixture of modern beds and traditional Japanese futons.
Besides the open-air baths with piped in onsen waters found in each of the rooms, guests also have access to probably Hakone’s current most distinguished semi outdoor infinity onsen with impressive views of the serene surroundings, “The infinity hot spring”. Two outdoor pools (rotemburo) located on the 5th and 6th floors of the property and are filled with authentic waters from the hot springs, one overlooking the legendary Hakone mountains and the other a natural waterfall in a forest environment.
Overlooking the beautiful horizon, the baths follow the traditional rules of a Japanese onsen and rotate between male-only and female-only usage throughout the day. Guests may also wish to visit Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, a onsen-themed theme park with various activities and amenities just across the street from Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu.
Dining
Enjoy traditional Japanese cuisine at the restaurants located in Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu . Guests at Teppan-yaki Kihinkan can enjoy the skillful techniques of chefs preparing Matsusaka Beef and Awabi (abalone) right in front of them. Soba Kihinkan is a more traditional restaurant that overlooks a stunning Japanese garden, transporting guests back to the romantic Taisho era of Japan. Both restaurants have rich cultural history and significance having been made part of the Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan and reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. The Ten-Yu Bar & Lounge is perfect for tea or a post-dinner drink and serves local savoury cakes popular in the Hakone area.
