Among the many prestigious retreats that reside in the vibrant heart of Central Jakarta is Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta. A mainstay when it comes to luxury accommodations, it is situated right in-front of the symbolic Welcome Monument. And not only is the place strategically located near the Bundaran HI TransJakarta bus rapid transit station, but is also connected to one of the city’s best shopping malls.
The lobby is a grand area that includes a wide space and several long counters that is set as the concierge. Its apparent that the overall tone of the building is quaint, embodying elements that are both timeless and beautiful. This is further emphasized by the artifacts that are put on display. Everything from original tableware to photographs, and even the ceremonial scissors used to officially declare the opening of the then Hotel Indonesia are preserved as an homage to the property’s illustrious history.
One of its distinctive features is the direct link to the Grand Indonesia retail complex. The pathway is located on the right when facing the concierge, just before the entrance of Signatures restaurant. Taking the route would allow visitors to access the ground floor of the mall, where they can kickstart their shopping spree.
Accommodation
The rooms are equally impressive, with abundance of choices ranging from the comfortable 44 square-meter Deluxe Room to the regal 412 square-meter Presidential Suite that can accommodate up to six people, has a 24-hour butler service and admits entry to the Ganesha Executive Club Lounge
The Grand Deluxe Room is where the perfectly balanced contemporary style mixes with traditional influences, such as the use of hardwood floors blended with vintage carpeting stands that stands out as a testament to its heritage. It houses a King bed with plenty of space for additional mattresses, has availability for connecting rooms and an ergonomic working space.
The toilet comes with both a standing shower and an oversized bathtub that is positioned in front a large ceiling to floor window, that allows the room plenty of natural light during the day. There are also two separate basins that are right next to each other, so larger families can share the use of the bathroom.
Dining
There are many outlets in the mall, but a few that stand out. One such store is Kempideli, on the first floor, that sells many different European cuisines for breakfast and afternoon tea. They have exotic cuts like the Norwegian Sea Smoked Salmon and sandwiches like the Deli Double Decker, which comes with a fried egg, grilled chicken, and iceberg lettuce.
Another must-visit is the Paulaner Brauhaus restaurant on the second floor. This establishment is known for Bavarian gastronomy, which means loads of meat dishes and beer. Its unique interior mimics a typical beer hall, with a massive bronze spigot that has multiple taps to dispense several different brews. The place also has wall-mounted TVs and a large projector screen, making it a great place to gather with friends to enjoy major sporting events.
Patrons have a lot of options when it comes to both food and drinks. The Dunkel or Dark Beer, is particularly hearty, full of richness and flavour that pairs well with dishes like the Crispy Pork Knuckle, that comes with sauerkraut, bread dumplings and a delicious dipping gravy.
If you prefer to dine in, Signatures restaurant sits just after the walkway to the shopping centre. This charming eatery that leans heavily into its traditional Indonesian roots for its design inspiration, is stocked with a whole array of cuisines for its breakfast buffet.
The variety of food is quite diverse, that includes Asian favourites like Beef Stew, Mie Goreng Jawa, Sushi and Miso Soup. They also have Western delights like the Continental Breakfast and a live Omelette station that has different types of freshly cooked eggs. An indispensable item on the list would be their Bubur Ayam, an Indonesian rice porridge that contains chicken and other traditional condiments that has been satiating tastebuds since its beginnings in 1962.
Facilities
Beyond the residences, the hotel has many facilities that can be enjoyed throughout their stay. Perched on the top floor of the building, the first that provides a good view of the city skyline is the fitness centre.
It is equipped with a comprehensive set of fitness gear that caters to everyone. Stationary bicycles, a full-size squat rack, and row machines are just some of the equipment that can be found in this spacious and well-lit gym due to the many glass panels lining its circumference.
Past the fitness centre are a flight of stairs on the left, when facing the direction of the swimming pool, that lead to the locker rooms. Within is where you will find the hot jacuzzi, cold plunge pool, sauna, and steam rooms, along with the showers and toilets. The former two installations are tucked away in the corner, which helps present some level of privacy, while latter two amenities are built directly opposite the two pools, clustering them within close-proximity of each other for convenience.
Towards the end of the walkway is where the 1.5 meter deep pool is, but before entering the pool, guests can make full use of a box of complimentary items that includes sunblock, face mist and handsanitiser. Once done, the pool awaits, with lush greenery flanking every corner of the pool and amazing views of the surrounding skyscrapers.
Those who fancy a holistic treatment during the day or night, head over to The Kempinski Spa. They have classic massages like Traditional Javanese and Balinese Massage. The space is enormous with a welcoming reception and friendly staff who will usher you to a semi private area for a consultation before the start of your retreat. Try the Hot Stone Massage if you are looking for something different. Hot stones are placed on strategic points on the body for relief to the muscles. This is combined with long massage strokes with your choice of oils.
Aside from the regular rooms, the couple room has high ceilings with bathtub, changing room and almost everything else that will make your session as comfortable as possible. The lighting sets the right mood and ambiance for love ones to enjoy a relaxing time together. Afterwards, enjoy the post-treatment area with cosy lounge chairs and sofas while indulging in some light snacks and drinks.
