The awards continue with Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine’s Brewery (Beer) Of The Year 2021, a distinction which goes to The 1925 Brewing Co. A family-run business that is deeply rooted in traditions of old yet embracing contemporary elements of the future. “As a Peranakan Baba myself, it is heartening to see families coming together to celebrate ties that transcends time. My very own grandmother, Tan Poh Neo is an irreplaceable inspiration in my life and she continues to influence the way I live to this very day. Coincidentally her birth year is just one apart from The 1925 Brewing Co founders’ grandfather/father.” CEO BlackBookAsia Group & Editor In Chief Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine, Gabriel Tan.
“1925” is the birth year of the founders’ (brothers Ivan and Eng Kuang, and their uncle, Yeo King Joey) grandfather, Yeo Kim Ho, who was a dry goods grocer. Despite it being just a small run down stall in the wet market, he ran his business with the belief of providing his customers with only quality produce, most of which were crafted personally. He held immense pride and respect for his produce, yet openly shared his recipes, experience and knowledge. Holding on to the very same ideals, his birth year was used both as a tribute and a reminder of how businesses in The 1925 Brewing Co are conducted.
Some of our favourites, all proudly brewed in Singapore are as follows. YELLOW VAN (4.8% ABV) is a pale ale that has a delicate balance between both hops and malt. Brewed primarily with the hops, Citra (which is one of the most citrusy and aromatic hop in the world) making it easy to pair with many kinds of cuisine. The name comes from an actual yellow van in which the founder’s grandfather/father drove during the good old days. LIANG TEH also known as ‘cooling tea’ when translated to English, is a crisp easy to drink lager at 4.2% ABV, elevated by the lightness of white chrysanthemums. These same flowers are also used in versions of the classic cooling tea recipe, drunk by many in Singapore, especially during hot and humid days.
BLK 622 has a jet black body with a smooth creamy foam head, perfect for stout lovers. Flavours are bold and rich, with sensational hints of coffee and caramel. Again the name of this beer stands for Block 622 which is the founder’s grandfather/father Housing Development Board (HDB) flat in which fond memories were made. The 1925 Brewing Co also creates seasonal beers such as JINGLE ALL THE WAY which is a festive drink ideal for Christmas because of the aroma and taste of gingerbread. The brand also brew exclusive must try beers for hotels such as The Clan Hotel Singapore (click below for the full article).
Once again congratulations to The 1925 Brewing Co for being voted as Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine’s Brewery (Beer) Of The Year 2021. Stay tuned to more features on this standout brand, from us to you with love.
