Two Michelin-starred Sun Tung Lok has been a veteran in Hong Kong’s dining scene for many years with a name synonymous for top quality cuisine and most excellent service. And when we say veteran we mean going back to year 1969 where it was founded by the Yuen family. To the delight of Instagram-loving diners who are drawn near and far to it’s new location at Mira Place One with its lovely floral motives plus gold accents that can be seen throughout the restaurant walls along with luxury furniture and chic lighting.
Clean and pure flavours are the hallmarks of Guangdong cuisine and Sun Tung Lok’s dishes reflect that to the tee. The Spanish Red Prawn in Shrimp Stock is impressive; served with bamboo pith on a layer of steamed egg white. The prawn is full of flavours with a lovely firmness to the flesh, the bamboo has a delightful spring to the bite complimented by the smooth silky egg. A masterful play between various textures. The stock is rich and full of depth from the many hours of concoction using premium ingredients.
Their signature Steamed Garoupa Fillet uses only fresh fishes to construct served with black fish roe, bean curd, ham and egg yolk. The chawamushi like component is light and enjoyable with the savoury ham, and is extra addictive with the inclusion of the roe. Again the textural contrast makes this a noteworthy dish. An excellent choice for both business and casual dining sessions as the course is served in individual portions. This particular dish showcases the chefs understanding of seasonal ingredients and high quality produce.
Braised Prime Rib of Beef is highly recommend, using the oxtail accompanied by carrot, white radish and bak choy, garnished with shallots and chill. The meat is slowly and carefully braised for 6 hours till tender and drenched in house gravy that stood out on it’s own, made with a secret recipe. Enhance your experience with a glass or even bottle of red wine from Chateau Lussan in Bordeaux France vintage 2017, a classic paring with beef with nice tannin and relatively long finish.
The award-winning restaurant’s all-time favourite treat is Rice with Preserved Meat, which include an assortment of sausages. This course is done a la minute with fragrant jasmine white rice in a traditional clay pot, which not only cooks the contents but also keeps it warm throughout your meal. Many dishes are served table side with the expertise of the staff who are some of the friendliest in town.
