United Overseas Bank Hong Kong (UOB Hong Kong) launched the 2018 UOB Art in Ink Awards recently, which aims to foster greater appreciation for ink art and to offer local artists opportunities to showcase their artworks.
As part of the competition’s accompanying community outreach programme, UOB Hong Kong will also hold a series of ink art workshops at primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. These workshops will be conducted by local ink artists who will share their knowledge and ink painting techniques with the objective to inspire more youths to pursue their interest in art. In addition, UOB Hong Kong will work with charitable organisations to bring the joy of ink art painting to more children.
The UOB Art in Ink Awards, now in their second year, will focus on the theme of Connectivity. The theme encourages artists to draw inspiration from or to demonstrate the many connections that define contemporary life. These can range from increasing global and digital connectivity to connections with nature or from relationships.
Mrs Christine Ip, CEO – Greater China, UOB, said, “The UOB Art in Ink Awards is part of our longstanding commitment to help connect people, to enrich lives and to strengthen communities through art. Building upon the foundation of the first edition and with the addition of our art outreach workshops at various schools this year, we hope to open more hearts and minds to the potential of ink art, and to uncover and to nurture more ink art talent in Hong Kong.”
As part of nurturing more ink art talent, this year the UOB Art in Ink Awards will include a Most Promising Artist of the Year award for the Emerging Artist category. This award is open to students aged between 9 and 17.
The winning artwork from the Established Artist category (open to those aged 18 or above) will be named ‘UOB Ink Art of the Year’ and the winner will receive an overseas art residency scholarship.
