In our first collaboration with Tourism Tasmania, the team at Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine (SVR) have tasted and reviewed some gems from this island state of Australia. This is a sneak peak to what this spectacular destination has to offer.
Lark Distillery
In 1992, the Lark household became the first Australian distillery to produce single malt spirit in 154 years. The spirit continued to grow and evolve, leading to the creation of a rich Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky aged in small casks. Finally in 1998, after years in the making, the first Lark Distillery Single Malt Whisky was released commercially.
Fast forward to today, Lark Distillery have expanded their portfolio to include other spirits like gin using ingredients like pepperberry native to Tasmania. These small dark berries usually found on the mountains, gives the traditional gin taste and flavour a lovely twist. A sublime contrast between the gentle nose that has less floral and botanical notes as compared to it’s counterparts but a rather dry boldness on the palate with hints of peppers (a cross between the famous white peppers from Sarawak, Malaysia and Kampot black peppers from Kampot, Cambodia) and spice. SVR Recommendation: Ideal to mix with premium tonic water for lovers of G&T.
Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine gives two thumbs up for Lark Distillery’s Pepperberry Bush Spirit. Pepperberry as the name entails is the central ingredient in the making of this secret family recipe with clean waters from the Tasmanian highlands and burnt Australian sugar cane. SVR Recommendation: This rich spirit with it’s golden hue is best taken on the rocks.
Lark Distillery has achieved carbon neutral status – the experience of enjoying Lark spirits goes beyond the sense of taste, sight and smell. There is a personal fulfilment knowing that Lark products are created with maximum care for the environment. Although BlackBookAsia’s UHNW/HNW VIPs, Corporate Clients and readers are unable to physically participate in Tasmanian Whiskey Week from 9-15 August. Some labels can still be bought at selected stores in Asia. For more information BlackBookAsia VIPs email vip@blackbookasia.com
Blue Hills Honey Tasmania
Most of us in Asia and around the world would have tasted Leatherwood Honey at one time or another. But do you know that the rare leatherwood tree is only found in Tasmania, a place with one of the world’s cleanest water and air? In comes, Blue Hills Honey Tasmania founded in 1955 producing award winning honey sourced from the wild and made using a process of cold extraction to retain the very best of this liquid gold in it’s truest and purest form.
Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine suggest consuming this honey as it is over your toasts, pancakes and waffles. For a healthy drink, mix the Blue Hills Leatherwood Honey (which contains some of the highest antioxidants of any honey in the world) with slices of organic ginger and lemon slices in hot water and enjoy. Have some extra left in the pot? Just put it in the fridge to make a cold version that is just as refreshing taken day or night. For more recipes BlackBookAsia VIPs email vip@blackbookasia.com
