NANZUKA is pleased to present “Tanaami x adidas Originals,” a solo exhibition of new works by Keiichi Tanaami. This presentation is a special exhibition organized as part of “adidas gallery,” a new artist collaboration project by world-class sports fashion brand, adidas Originals.
The “ADICOLOR X TANAAMI” collection scheduled for release in March from adidas Originals, will feature a diverse line-up of 9 items including adidas Originals’ most iconic models such as the 3-stripes California T-shirt, as well as the Firebird tracksuit that marks its revival for the first time in four years.
While the fusion of art and fashion is a new trend in the current culture scene, such collaborations are no means unusual for Tanaami. For Tanaami, who has been active as a graphic designer, filmmaker, and artist for over half a century since the 1960s, never heeding the boundaries of mediums or genres but instead continuing to aggressively traverse them through his unique practice, this project could indeed be considered as a main battlegrounds for exercising his creativity.
In reality, Tanaami has engaged in a variety of collaborations throughout his extensive career, including artwork for the Japanese version albums of Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn (1967) by the legendary rock band “Monkeys,” and “Jefferson Airplane’s” After Bathing At Baxters (1967), designing the poster for Andy Warhol’s exhibition at Daimaru Department Store in Japan (1984), in addition to working with brands and companies such as Manish Arora (2008), lucien pellat-finet (2011), Stussy (2012), Marc Jacobs (2017), Louis Vuitton (2017), and Disney (2018).
For this special collaborative exhibition, Tanaami presents 16 new works on canvas including those that feature adidas Original’s traditional “Trefoil” logo, as well as two new three-dimensional works.
