You won’t want to leave the majestic Sanchaya resort, no matter how long you stay or which of their plush 30 suites or villas you choose. Immerse yourself in the 50-metre infinity pool overlooking the ocean, the range of indoor and outdoor activities, exquisite dining, and the invigorating Balinese-inspired spa.
Upon arrival, the diligent staff will cool you with chilled towels and a range of naturally flavored beverages and local fruits. While soothing in the lounge, take advantage of the staff’s encyclopedic knowledge of the hotel’s design and history, the numerous amenities, and the various activities. There is much to take in in this majestic resort.
The Olympic-length infinity pool is steps away from Lagoi Beach, set in a quiet inlet whose calm warm waters lap against the white-sand beach. But when lounging by the pool, the chairs are cozier and the amenities closer. Servers hasten to provide you with chilled drinks, hand-made snacks, even fresh coconut cocktails.
Relaxation is the resort’s forte. But for those with an appetite for activities, the exquisite pool is not the only choice. Ocean-oriented options include paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling. And the hotel even offers a fully equipped fitness center, complimentary archery, yoga, padel ball, a croquet lawn, as well as bicycles to cruise through the nearby park.
Accommodation
The 30 room types vary widely, from the Verandah Suites with their spacious balconies to the four-bedroom 1,400 square-metre standalone residence villa with its own private pool, where lavish breakfasts are served for up to eight guests. All rooms mix elegant French colonial and Southeast Asian styles, with polished wood on the main floors and intricate tile in the bathrooms — most of which offer deep Lefroy Brooks standalone marble bathtubs with cast-iron feet.
The various room types differ in layout but all feature tasteful chic facilities alongside colonial decorations that offer the best of the modern and the past. The marble countertops and interior white brick bedazzle while the beds’ Egyptian cotton linen will lull you into a restful sleep.
Take advantage of the room’s complimentary snack, beer and easy-to-use espresso machine. Then settle in to select from the 700-plus Apple TV movies for display on your widescreen Bang & Olufsen TV and sound system.
The bathrooms are a special touch of each room, with ultramodern designs and a raft of complimentary Aesop products. The spacious high-pressure shower is separate from the deep clawfoot bathtub.
Most verandas are enormous, with swinging or deep-seated chairs for downtime to read and watch the beach while the ocean air breezes through.
Dining
Breakfast included naughty staples like waffles and pancakes but also a range of health items, washed down with strong coffee, smoothies and fresh-squeezed fruit juices. But the go-to items are local favourites like Mee rebus noodles, made with herbs and vegetables from the resort’s own garden.
The al fresco Tasanee Grill, beside the 50-metre infinity pool and with an ocean view, features a gourmet take on Thai street food staples, an intoxicating mix of Bangkok flavors and modern fusions. Indoors, the Dining Room offers a mix of contemporary European and Indonesian delicacies. Standout dish: the Ikan Asam Pedas Melayu, spicy sour fish fillet, tamarind, chili, ginger flower, pineapple, steamed jasmine rice.
Wellness
The spa is a favourite among guests, and for good reason: the range of healing options is endless and you can choose an indoor or outdoor setting. The masseuses are highly experienced and will tailor any treatment to your specific needs.
Treatments include standards such as oil and deep tissue massages, manicures, and facials. But there the resort offers specialties such as its oxygen treatment and the 105-minute Sanchaya signature full-body massage. Most guests find the Balinese massage was the best they’d ever had. Tip: Ask about the Kawasaki massage, a special hot-stone therapy offered at few select places in the world.
The swimming pool faces the sea for brilliant views be it in the waters or lying on one of the overwater loungers. Other must try activities is the Blokart Sailing which is really fun but weather dependant. The Founder of BlackBookAsia Group, Gabriel Tan game of choice this season is the Padel which is a fusion of squash and tennis. A great sport for a good workout!
