Located just steps away from the turtle nesting habitat of Mai Khao beach, JW Marriott Phuket is a 5-star resort with an eye for traditional architecture as designed by famous hotel designer, Bill Bensley. With 265 rooms, 3 swimming pools, the legendary Mandara spa, a wide selection of 10 restaurants across the beachfront property, it is no wonder that JW Marriott Phuket continues to be a premier destination for families looking for the perfect Thai getaway.
One of the primary focuses of the hotel is the protection and conservation of the marine turtles that call Mai Khao beach home. The beach is a nesting ground for the turtles who lay their eggs on the shores before heading back into deeper water. The property does not utilize any bright lights in any of the facilities facing the ocean to ensure the turtle hatchlings head back towards the sea instead of towards the property.
The resort has an in-house turtle shelter where they rest and rehabilitate handicapped turtles who are unable to survive in the ocean. The property hosts daily feeding sessions where guests are invited to learn and be educated about the fascinating sea creatures. JW Marriott Phuket also supports the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation (MKMTF) and encourages guests to make a small donation that goes towards the efforts in protecting the endangered turtles.
With such a large property, JW Marriott does not fall short with facilities for all ages and interests. Right beside the spa is an extensive and spacious fitness centre with numerous gym equipment as well as bike rentals. There are 3 swimming pools across the property including a large family pool perfect for families with children as well as quiet pools for adults only. Located beside their Thai restaurant Ginja Taste is a cooking school specializing in Thai cuisine for up to 8 students at once.
Rooms
The resort is designed with relaxation and rejuvenation in mind with rooms set within large, expansive gardens filled with flora and fauna. The rooms in JW Marriott Phuket come in a variety of different specifications to attune to the needs of each guest. Guests are given a choice of either garden, pool or ocean view rooms, each of which features traditional, warm wooden interiors, and features toiletries by Aromatherapy Associates. One of the biggest rooms on the property is the Ocean Front Family Pool room which other than having great access to the Mai Khao beach, has its own plunge pool within a spacious lawn and garden area for rest and relaxation.
Dining
There is definitely something for everyone with 10 restaurants of different cuisines and styles all over the property. Led by executive chef Dietmar Spitzer, the food at JW Marriott Phuket emphasizes on minimizing wastage and using locally sourced products, collaborating with local melon farmers and fishermen to provide the food found in the restaurants. Not to be missed is Cucina, the property’s Italian restaurant where we had a 3-course menu specially designed by the chefs, with a focus on using every aspect of melons sourced from Kamila Melon Farm located just up the road from the property. The Carpaccio Di Melone Di Phuket stole the show with generous slices of sweet Phuket melon contrasted with the savoury notes of black olives, Parmiggiano Reggiano and fresh crab meat.
Another highlight of the resort is Andaman Grill, a restaurant just steps away from the sea serving the freshest seafood while guests enjoy the ocean breeze. The highlight of the evening was the Andaman Sea bass Fillet served with honey mustard cauliflower, cauliflower cream, radish and fresh tarragon, topped with a grilled lemon. The very fresh local seabass paired really well with the cauliflower cream, which lent the right amount of decadence to really bring out the flavours in the fish.
Spa
Winning multiple accolades all over the world, the Mandara Spa needs no introduction as one of the largest and fastest growing spa brands internationally. One of the highlights of Mandara Spa at the resort is the outdoor treatment areas, giving guests views of a private lush garden while enjoying their treatments. Each treatment at the spa begins with a health assessment as well as a choice of 4 different massage oils namely, Mandara, Tranquility, Thai Spices and Harmony, each featuring different blends of spices, fruits and flowers each with its own benefit to the body. You may your therapist at the spa for a recommendation of massage oil based on your health assessment. The Aromatic Massage is principally based on elements of Swedish massage and aromatherapy, utilizing essential oils to relieve muscular pains and digestive disorders.
One of the highlights of the Mandara Spa at JW Marriott Phuket is the annual Wellness Program, a weekend filled with seminars, activities and nutritious yet delicious meals led by healthcare professionals in the fields of life coaching, yoga, boxing, and food education. The program is perfect for individuals keen on a reboot and replenish of their energy and spirit while at the same time learning about fitness and health facts to reprogram your body to a healthier, happier state.
