Henri Charpentier Celebrates 10 Years in Singapore with Pop-Up at Madame on 69 Tras Street, Expands Global Footprint in Southeast Asia

Henri Charpentier, the renowned French-inspired Japanese patisserie, is celebrating its tenth anniversary in Singapore. Since the opening of its first store in 2014, Henri Charpentier has captivated dessert lovers and culinary enthusiasts with its signature blend of French techniques and Japanese craftsmanship. As it marks a decade in Singapore, Henri Charpentier has set its sights on further expanding across Southeast Asia with Singapore as its regional hub.

Henri Charpentier will commemorate its 10th anniversary with a series of immersive activations to thank the local community for ten years of sweet success. Consumers can expect a high tea culminating in the long-awaited return of the brand’s theatrical tableside service of their famous Crêpe Suzette, and an intimate workshop on decorating a 12cm Strawberry Shortcake led by Head Chef Kenji Yokota, hosted in an exclusive location at Madame at 69 Tras Street from 9 to 13 October 2024.

Children born on 9 October 2014—the same day Henri Charpentier first opened its doors in Singapore— will receive a special gift of a 12cm Strawberry Shortcake, available for collection at one of Henri Charpentier’s six stores at PLQ Mall, 100AM, Ngee Ann City, Great World, VivoCity, and Orchard Central, from October 9 to 13, upon presentation of a valid ID.

“We are deeply grateful to all our customers in Singapore for embracing Henri Charpentier as part of their special moments over the past 10 years,” said Ami AritaChief Executive Officer of Henri Charpentier Singapore. “This milestone represents not only our success in our inaugural international market, but more importantly, the strong connection we have built with our customers in Singapore, who inspire us to innovate while preserving our artisanal roots.”

Commitment to Craftsmanship

Henri Charpentier’s 10th anniversary celebrations are a reflection of its unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. Testament to this is Henri Charpentier’s unique approach to creating its cakes, with each cake being prepared and baked daily from start to finish by a single chef rather than being assembled on a production line, thus ensuring consistency in quality from its central kitchen.

“While this method may seem inefficient, we believe that nurturing individual craftsmanship is essential to maintaining the high quality that our brand has come to be known for,” said Kenji YokotaHead Chef of Henri Charpentier Singapore. “This allows us to cultivate future pastry talents who can make a lasting impact in the industry, and we hope that Henri Charpentier Singapore’s kitchen can become a place that nurtures future talents who can achieve world-class recognition and success.”

This dedication to skill is a key tenet of Henri Charpentier’s brand identity, which is reflected in every aspect of the brand’s operations—from the central kitchen where fresh cakes are prepared and baked daily, to the chefs who uphold the highest standards of excellence with each creation.

10th Anniversary Celebrations

To commemorate its 10th anniversary in Singapore, Henri Charpentier has curated a series of events that reflects dedication to craftsmanship, flavour, and creating moments of joy for customers, with an exclusive pop-up at Madame at 69 Tras Street from 10 to 13 October 2024. These include:

The High Tea Experience culminates in a tableside service of the famous Crêpe Suzette, flambéed for a dramatic finale.
  • The Atelier – The Shortcake Workshop: Led by Head Chef Kenji Yokota, this intimate workshop at Madame will provide participants the opportunity to decorate their own 12cm Strawberry Shortcake, experiencing first-hand the artistry and precision that goes into each creation.
  • The Patisserie – Open for a limited time at Madame, the Patisserie offers freshly baked financiers and a select beverage menu, with exclusive, limited-edition retail packs and gifts available for purchase.

“We want to celebrate this significant milestone by sharing the joy of our craft with our customers and show them the process that goes into our labour of love,” said Michiko Kurozumi, Back Office Manager of Henri Charpentier Singapore. “Our customers are an integral part of our journey in Singapore, and our 10th anniversary festivities are our way of giving back and creating more memories that will be cherished for years to come.”

Looking Forward: Singapore as a Hub for Future Expansion

As Henri Charpentier celebrates ten years of success in Singapore, the brand is poised for further growth across Southeast Asia, with plans to open more stores in Singapore as well as its first store in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2025.

“Singapore has always been a vital market for us as it has served as a testbed for innovation and customer engagement,” said Arita.

With Thailand’s rich culinary heritage and growing appreciation for premium patisserie, Bangkok represents the next step in Henri Charpentier’s regional expansion. The brand is also looking to deepen its existing retail partnerships in Hong Kong, as well as expand into other markets in Asia-Pacific and the United Arab Emirates.

“We have learnt so many lessons that have proved to be invaluable to the brand’s growth, and we look forward to continuing to adapt our offerings across the region while maintaining true to the core of our brand,” added Arita.

With Singapore as the brand’s first international market, the city-state’s strategic position as a cultural and business hub makes it the ideal base for regional growth, enabling Henri Charpentier to replicate its success in other markets while continuing to fine-tune its approach based on the insights gleaned over the past decade.

Henri Charpentier’s continued commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and creating moments of joy will guide the brand’s future expansion plans, as the brand remains focused on preserving the artisanal techniques that have made it a household name while expanding its reach to new markets.

“Our goal is to bring the joy of Henri Charpentier’s desserts to more communities across Southeast Asia, staying true to the values that have shaped our brand journey so far,” said Arita. “As we celebrate a successful first decade of international growth, we are excited for many more to come.”
