BlackBookCares Presents: The Communal Place

As the name suggest, The Communal Place was created with the neighbourhood community in mind. A family run business whereby virtues such as kindness in sharing are the foundation of this establishment. A modern Asian and Western cuisine is served here and the menu also includes some local specialities. Ideal for laid-back gathering of family, friends and even colleagues over honest food and good conversations.

Iced Osmanthus Sencha And Passion Fruit Oolong (front and back)

Even the drinks here are an interesting combination of flavours like Iced Osmanthus Sencha which has that aromatic yellow flower scent while taking in the health benefits of green tea. The Passion Fruit Oolong is a fruity version of this tea and delightful when drunk cold. Fish Taco is made from beer-battered dory on a bed of coleslaw and topped with salsa and chipotle mayo. Steak Salad has thoughtfully sliced USDA striploin over a mesclun salad that consist of red radish, confit cherry tomatoes, pickled beetroots and finished with a drizzle of thick balsamic glaze. Cooked the traditional way, Har Cheong Gai is available due to popular request from regular diners that includes home-made chili sauce that taste abit like the chicken rice version.

Foie Gras, Miso

As a pre-main, we would recommend sharing a plate of Foie Gras, Miso; linguine pasta in a not too creamy miso sauce with bacon and a generous serving of pan seared foie gras with capelin roe. Our favourite dish of the night must be the made to order Yuzu Chicken, the famed fruit from Japan is used as a glaze coating on the marinated chicken accompanied with baby potatoes and vegetables. Love the way the chicken is presented “butterfly style” that is marinated overnight then baked for 20mins. Miso Salmon has flavourful white miso pan-seared salmon, glazed vegetables and pickled beetroot on mash, complete with bouillabaisse espuma.

Tiramisu

Another inventive take is the Tiramisu, which is partly deconstructed using the same base ingredients such as mascapone and sponged finger with a twist by including honeycomb, crumbles and mixed berries. The team at Savour BlackBookAsia Magazine is happy to announce that The Communal Place has been short listed for BlackBookCares “Cook With Passion Award (Katong/East Coast/Joo Chiat) 2022”. Stay tuned for the results come year end.
