Best New Hotel 2023 (Singapore): Artyzen Singapore

In a leafy neighbourhood just west of the bustling Orchard Road lies a lush vertical oasis that transports both tourists and locals away from life’s commotion. Standing tall like a majestic vertical structure with gold accents and lines, as well as holes and gaps full of greenery, the magnificent Artyzen Singapore is hard to miss, even from a far distance. An escape to nature with a nod to the culture, colours, and flavours of Singapore’s Straits heritage, Artyzen Singapore is a grand sanctuary perfect for a tranquil stay in the heart of the bustling city centre.

The entrance itself, surrounded by green landscaping and warm lights, transports guests to a different, isolated world that blends sustainability and modern luxury. Upon entering the hotel, guests are greeted with an enclosed lobby that opens up to a grand space spanning two floors, with ceiling-high windows and hanging flora, exuberating an airy, spacious, and cosy feel. Paying homage to Tan Hoon Siang, a rubber tycoon and avid botanist who owned the two-storey Villa Marie before it became Artyzen Singapore, orchids of all kinds fill the halls, gardens, and roofs of the hotel.

Dining

Artyzen Singapore is home to exquisite dining options, particularly Quenino by Victor Liong on Level 4. Pronounced as ‘ke-ni-nu’, Quenino means ‘little one’ in Malaccan Creole Portuguese, and is helmed by the celebrated Melbourne Chef Victor Liong with Malaysian Chinese heritage, who was awarded Two Chef Hats by the Australian Good Food & Travel Guide. Open from 5pm to 10.30pm, Quenino by Victor Liong offers delectable fine-dining dinner course menus, including a vegetarian option, that invite guests to tuck into New Straits flavours stemming from naturally sourced and artisanal ingredients, with a sublime blend of traditional and modern techniques.

Chef de Cuisine Sujatha Asokan, along with an assigned server for your table, intimately presents each course’s background for a more informative relishing experience. The dinner course menus can be further elevated with a wine pairing curated by a wine sommelier, as well as supplementary dishes such as the Uni Pain Perdu and Dry Aged Lacquered Duck for a medley of flavours that enhance the exquisite dinner experience. The latter is a fun “DIY” course that is centred around perfectly cooked meat that has a gorgeous sheer from the wild honey glaze, surrounded by condiments and wraps made of fermented rice.
