1. What is your dream destination and why?
The glass igloos in Finland! Being a huge fan of winter, the cold and the snow, Northern Lights has always been a dream destination on my bucket list, and I’ve always had a fascination with igloos and ice hotels. Experiencing all these with a special someone for our honeymoon, that would be my ideal getaway.
2. Three things that you could never travel without?
I need to have my allergy medications with me (just in case I break out in rashes), lip balm (dry lips can be really painful and would spoil my food experiences- I’m a huge foodie), and my flamingo print raincoat (I would pick raincoats anytime over umbrellas).
3. Which destination surpassed your expectations and surprised you the most?
Japan! Living in Singapore, we are spoilt with our public transport system, where everywhere is very easily accessible, either by train or bus. But in Japan, I was really impressed with how the trains are ALWAYS on schedule, right on the dot, down to every second. We timed it! My sister and I took our dad to F1 in Suzuka last year for his birthday treat, and having experienced all the accessibility and punctuality of the trains, we thought the F1 track would be exactly where we alighted from. But we were so surprised when we had to walk 45 minutes from the train station to the F1 circuit, and (thanks to fitbit) clocked more than 25,000 steps in one day. Yup, it was that far. We later found out that it was typical of the older F1 tracks to be further away from the city, Not exactly a pleasant surprise, but it’s adventures like that which fosters great family bonding and burns a very deep meaningful memory in all our hearts. So all’s good in the end!
4. Where and what was your most memorable meal you have ever had while travelling?
Hida beef sashimi in Nagoya! Wow, talk about tender, beautifully seasoned and marinated beef, very generously sliced, and served with a raw egg. Mix it together and just wolf it down. I never expected to like raw meat, but this was a juicy firework explosion of flavors, yet soft and smooth on the palette. Unforgettable.
5. Where are you looking to travel next?
I love Thailand, and I do want to take some time to explore Khao Yai. If you haven’t seen pictures of Khao Yai, go google it! It’s beautiful. I love Europe too, and going to Khao Yai seems like taking a trip to Tuscany, minus the long flights, major time difference and expensive currency exchanges. I love nature, so as long as I’m near mountains or the sea or ocean, parks or farms, I’m one very happy lady.
6. What projects are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on three TV series: 118 Season 2, 卫国先锋, and Lion Moms Season 2.
7. Do you have any tips or advice for budding actors or actresses?
Be true to who you are. I’ve always believed that in our line of work, being able to connect with people is very important, and the only way you can truly connect with someone, is to be true, authentic and genuine, firstly, with yourself, only then can you project that onto your colleagues and audience. Be bold to face your dreams, be hardworking, be patient with timing and luck, be honest with yourself and your craft, and most importantly, be you.
